Custodial History
This manuscript appears to have been copied by Charles A. Ford for his friend and traveling companion Tom Rushton in 1898. A piece of paper is pasted to the front pastedown, on which is written in pencil "This is for John Ford." In ink beneath, John H. Ford (Charles' son) has added "The above found in this book was evidently written by 'Uncle' Tom Rushton before his death. The book is in my dad's handwriting & was a gift to 'Uncle Tom' from him apparently not written till 1898. JHF 12/18/56." Below this is a further inscription from John H. Ford: "This book in my 'Dad's" (Charles A. Ford) handwriting is an account of a trip he and Tom Rushton took in their 16' sailboat from Syracuse N.Y. to Ticonderoga N.Y. by way of Oswego Canal, Lake Ontario, St. Lawrence River, Richelieu River & Lake Champlain. Dad was 21 years of age at the time - Tom Rushton a couple of years older. They both enjoyed this sort of thing together in 1915 or 1916 they walked from Syracuse to Binghamton. John H. Ford 12/17/56."
