Scope and Contents

A myriad of clippings related to Charles Rock. It should be noted that, although the bulk of the clippings are related to theatres in the UK (mainly London), there are also a few from Toronto, Rochester, Cleaveland, Detroit, Pittsburg, and Chicago. All of the Canada/US clippings are from 1896. Publications represented include The Stage, The Essex Telegraph, The Croydon Chronicle, The Croydon Guardian, The Croydon Times, The Sunderland Daily Echo, The Jarrow Guardian, The Globe, The Daily Chronicle, The Stage, The Daily Telegraph, St. James's Gazette, The Bristol Evening News, The Era, The Liverpool Mercury, etc. etc.

Note: Contains three pieces of correspondence to Charles Rock from E. Bancroft, all dated 1892.

Also contains one piece of correspondence to Mrs. Henry Von Konn (Charles Rock's sister) from William Cathcart, Stage Manager at the Garrick Theatre, dated 1893; contains one piece of correspondence to Mrs. De Falbeck (Charles Rock's mother) from William Cathcart, dated 1893. A note reads "These two telegrams were sent unknown by me, by William Cathcart after my first performance of Gregory Goldfinch (Uncle Gregory) 'the man from Sheffield' in 'A Pair of Spectacles' at a matinee at the Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, 14th October 1893, so [illegible] tham as notices. Charles Rock."
