San toy : sketches, 1901
Scope and Contents
Portfolio: San Toy, sketches by Alf Vincent; presented under the direction of J C Williamson. Melbourne: Atlas Press, 1901.
Eleven of the twelve plates are present.
Tasmanian-born Alf Vincent (1874–1915) drew for the Melbourne Punch and the Bulletin from 1895 until his death in 1915. Outside the usual run of newspaper and magazine caricatures, Vincent did a fine piece of work in a theatrical souvenir, a pamphlet consisting of twelve sketches (some in colour) of performers in J.C. Williamson’s Comic Opera Co. production of San Toy which premiered on 21 December 1901 at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne. On the occasion of the fiftieth performance of the show on 8 February 1902, a portfolio of sketches was handed out to every lady visitor. (Source: https://theatreheritage.org.au/)
