Scope and Contents
Jacob Shappee's diary for 1879, with daily entries. Written in the "Excelsior Daily Journal for 1879" ("Published Annually for the Trade). Diary entries are followed by a page of Memoranda which lists Chemung County Supervisors by term and City Supervisors by Ward, a page of Memoranda which lists days worked by month, Cash Accounts for each month, and Bills Payable/Receivable, which are entered sporadically.
On the recto of the rear free endpaper "Mr. M. G. Shappee" has written his address in Salt River, MI twice. On the verso of the rear free endpaper, Jacob Shappee notes that he bought the diary volume on January 11, 1879 for 50 cents from H. S. Fitch.
