John Porcius Gage to Grace D. Nichols, December 23, 1865
Scope and Contents
Written from Vineland, Cumberland County, New Jersey. Opens "My Dear Grace." Describes his return to Vineland before Thanksgiving and his activities since then, including various dances and ice skating. Notes that she can call him John but not on the outside of the envelope as his father might open it. He goes on "It does seem funny to think that a correspondence begun as a joke should be kept up so long" and closes with another request for her picture.
