Robert Rankin to Grace D. Nichols, October 15, 1865
Scope and Contents
Written from Belfast, Maine. Opens "Dear Cousin Gracie." Notes that she has not acknowledged receiving his note. Offers as reasons for not writing "sickness, absence, want of time, expecting to go to Rockland to answer it verbally and a great many others 'too numerous to mention.'" Writes that he has not framed her photo and hung it over his bed, but "have tied it around my neck with a piece of blue ribbon do you not think that a good deal better Gracie my Darling, if you do not I do and it is all the same in German I believe." He reports he's using his last sheet of paper so she may need to wait some time for a long letter. He reports that he has two brothers and one sister besides Kate, and that they may arrive during the winter. He reports that he has seen Johnnie Robbins in Belfast and got all the news from Rockland. He thanks Hannah for the cigars.
Envelope postmarked at Belfast, October 15. Addressed to "Miss Grace D. Nicholls, Rockland, ME."
