Robert Rankin to Grace D. Nichols, November 26, 1865
Scope and Contents
Written from Belfast, Maine. Opens "My Dear Gracie." Reports that he goes to singing school two evenings and week, and another evening to the sociable, and works every day from "daybreak until night." He says he does not care a fig for what Desire thinks, but agrees that Grace can show his letters to her mother, but to no one else: "I am afraid you have one confidant to many in Rockland, for your own good I shant call the persons name but will leave you to guess ...". He goes back to Lizzie, calling her "one of the most rampant secessionist I ever met with probably that is what made me think so much of her, but that is all over now." He reports that both Kate and Richard are now there, "so now Gracie my little honey bunch if you want to see my rebellous sister I suppose you can for she will go to Rockland pretty soon." He closes with "I must stop Aunt Sina is driving me off to church and I want to mail this today" and ends "Your Loving Coz, Ro'bt."
