Scope and Contents

This series contains materials about the early-19th-centuryAmerican painter John Vanderlyn. Items in this series include correspondence between Lindsay and various institutions across the United States that discuss the loan of artworks for the Vanderlyn exhibit, Lindsay’s handwritten research notes for his article about Vanderlyn’s Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos, and photographs of paintings that Lindsay used as part of his consultation work.
