Vanderlyn, 1802 - 2004
Scope and Contents
This series contains materials about the early-19th-centuryAmerican painter John Vanderlyn. The materials relate not only to the art exhibit curated by Kenneth Lindsay at the Binghamton University Art Museum in 1970, but also to the corresponding exhibit catalogue that he wrote and his own personal research on Vanderlyn. Items in this series include correspondence between Lindsay and various institutions across the United States that discuss the loan of artworks for the Vanderlyn exhibit, Lindsay’s handwritten research notes for his article about Vanderlyn’s Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos, and photographs of paintings that Lindsay used as part of his consultation work.
