Scope and Contents
The materials contained within this series relate to Kenneth Lindsay’s involvement in the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Section of the United States Army during and after World War II. Within this series are photographs of Lindsay’s time in the MFAA, letters and documents relating to the 202 pieces of European artwork that were sent to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. for safe-keeping after the end of the war, and his 1949 passport and pass to the Louvre in Paris. Additionally, included within this series are later-dated materials, such as Lindsay’s writings about war looting and his correspondence with Richard Berge, who directed the documentary The Rape of Europa.
