Tunkhannock Brass Band Constitution, Bylaws, and Accounts, 1852 - 1854
Scope and Contents
Nine leaves of a larger manuscript, which originally seems to have contained at least 67 pages.
Contents:
- One unnumbered leaf contains on the recto a list of band members' names, keyed to their relevant account pages within the larger manuscript. John Robinson and James Lamphear are noted as "Honorably discharged." Richard P. Ross is noted as "Left without cause," above which is written "A damned lie," with the word "damned" largely rubbed out. The verso of this leaf is blank.
- Pages 1 through 7 contain the Constitution and Bylaws of the band.
- Page 8 lists the officers elected on December 14 [24?], 1852: James B. Harding (President); D. Bidleman (Vice President); S. Scott Stark (Secretary); George Hunter (Treasurer); George S. Tutton (Leader).
- Page 9 lists the members of the band, with each signing his name. Next to several names is written in pencil either "Voted out," with "Dead" written in one instance and "Honorably discharged" written in ink in one instance.
- Pages 10 and 11 are the account pages of George S. Tutton, with entries dated from December 28, 1852 to July 1, 1854.
- Pages 12 and 13 are the account pages of James B. Harding, with entries dated from December 28, 1852 to March 1, 1854.
- Pages 14 and 15 are the account pages of D. Bidleman, with entries dated from December 24, 1852 to March 1, 1854.
- Page 16 (the last page present) is the first account page of Henry Kelly, with entries dated from December 28, 1852 to March 1, 1853.

Historical Note
The Tunkhannock Brass Band was formed per these documents on December 24, 1852, at a meeting held in the office of Ira Avery in Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. In 1873 the name of the band was changed to the Tunkhannock Silver Cornet Band.
The members of the band in the order they appear on the first leaf of this document are: George S. Tutton; James B. Harding; D. Bidleman; Henry Kelly; G. D. Williams; L. Ebstudt; George W. Hunter; John Robinson; William F. Terry; William B. Overfield; Charles T. Marsh; A. J. Ross; Richard P. Ross; Robert E. Baker; James Lamphear; D. Scott Stark; George S. Young; and D. Ellis. Several other names appear at the bottom of the list of members on page 9, including P. C. Burns, A. E. Buck, O. L. Parrish, L. W. Hermans, F. M. Buck, and C. Wilson.
