Ottilie Ethel Leopoldine Herbert, Countess of Carnarvon (née Losch; 1903–1975), known professionally as Tilly Losch, was an Austrian dancer, choreographer, actress and painter. James Loften Mitchell (1919–2001) was an American playwright and theatre historian who was part of the black American theatre movement of the 1960s. He was a Professor in the Department of Theater and the Department of African-American Studies, at the State University of New York at Binghamton, from 1971-1985. The Loften Mitchell papers includes playscripts, reviews, production notes, lecture notes, personal correspondence, and memorabilia.

Overview
The Max Reinhardt Library and Archives at Binghamton University is one of several notable collections worldwide of books and manuscripts dealing with the work of the Austro-German theatre director Max Reinhardt (1873-1943). It contains approximately 15,000 books from Reinhardt’s personal library and over 10,000 manuscripts, items of correspondence, photographs, programs, critical reviews, directorial promptbooks, writings, and related supporting materials totaling approximately 100 cubic feet.

These items were primarily assembled between 1962 and 1995 by members of the Binghamton University Theatre Department.
