The records were kept by the colleges' administration and were created an maintained by the Deans, Provosts, Presidents, and other administrative staff. The University Communications and Marketing records documents the research and work of University Communications and Marketing (UCM). University Communications and Marketing is responsible for public and media relations for Binghamton University. While all the records were transfered from the UCM office, the majority of the collection documents activities, events, and personell from other departments.

The S. Stewart Gordon papers contains the administrative and research files of the first Dean of Harpur College (later Binghamton University) Gordon served in various positions in the University administration from 1955 to 1976, including as Dean, Interim President, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Executive Vice President for Planning. The majority of the papers are made up of the subject files series, i.e. Gordon's administrative files from his time at Binghamton University.
