Scope and Contents
The items contained within this subseries deal with Lindsay’s research on John Vanderlyn’s painting Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos. Materials include letters to and from Lindsay about identifying paintings, having his article about the Vanderlyn piece published, and about other works of art with the subject of Ariadne. Additionally, Lindsay’s research notes and a manuscript of his essay “The Cultural Impact of John Vanderlyn’s Ariadne” are found in the subseries.
