Immediate Source of Acquisition

Sometime between 1991 and 1996, the Binghamton University administrative offices moved a large number of their files to Champlain Hall for storage. These files included the records of the President's Office, Student Affiars, the Provost of Academic Affairs, Faculty Senate, and the Administrative Dean. Between 2000 and 2001, there were a number of leaks in the Champlain Hall storage room, and it became clear that the building was not suitable for long term record storage. Special Collections staff began transfering files to the archives, but due to the volume of files this took several years to execute. The had generally all arrived in Special Collections by 2002.

Because of the history of leaks in Champlain Hall, it is unclear how many records were destroyed from water damage. Documentation about damaged files are mostly for Faculty Senate files, though it is possible that files from this collection were also damaged and discarded.
